Ellis dropped out this morning. Mitch Monteiro of Cal State Bakersfield is in at HWT.
Champions are made while no one is watching.

Nice...this exhibition has to find a way to lock these guys in...this is silly.

At what point does the All-star meet start doing more harm than good? Yesterday Max Askren didn't wrestle in the duals and Mizzou wins those duals with him in the lineup. Wonder what that does to a college kid's mental state? You can't really blame him for wrestling in the all-star meet, but does he now blame himself for Mizzou losing, etc?

Krom and Bell wrestled on Friday and are wrestling in the All-Star and have a lot further to travel. I don't buy this "had to wrestle All-Star" crap for missing a dual. If it was Max's prerogative to sit, that's one thing, but when other kids from further away are wrestling on a Friday, I find that excuse hard to swallow.

As it was mentioned on another thread/board. James Nicholson wrestled against Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and then the All-Star Classic, making weight and wrestling three-top 10 wrestlers on consecutive days. He went from Stillwater to Norman to Columbus ... he did it, so with a day in between, there's even less "excuse" ...

They actually do get gifts. One year, the guys got iPods, another PSP's ... think of it like a bowl game and how the players get gifts for that. Well, this is kind of along the same lines. One year, Fossil watches ...

I never said anyone "had to wrestle all-star" in my post. Also, You're point is valid for the other kids. However, Askren is actually cutting weight for the first time in his life and we don't know if that plays into the decision. Having a kid make weight twice in a weekend is a bit much much for early season, if he's having trouble. My point was, without the all-star Askren wrestles in the duals and Mizzou wins if Askren beats two non-ranked wrestlers.

Since it's exhibition I would like to see the date moved so more of the top wrestlers participate. AND, so kids don't have to decide between the all-star and their own teams. Robles is case in point on that one.

This may not be ideal...but if they did it in December(during that time when there are hardly any matches being wrestled) maybe this would be less of a problem?
To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.

There were complaints and ducking when the event was in February, because it didn't "count" ... coaches were less inclined to wrestle in the late season. When it was moved to accomodate the complaining factions, it was again, complained about.

Situations like this, an event designed specifically to showcase top wrestlers in our sport under one roof -- we certainly like to complain about it a ton, and not to mention, our own constituency doesn't care about it enough. It's a damn shame, but then again, we are our own worst enemy.

Everyone in our sport complains ... about everything. I mean, seriously. There is no scenario that will please everyone, and there is every scenario that will allow everyone to voice their complaints.

It's a great event, we're too selfish to put sport first.
