| National Finalist | About 4 years ago Gable said on an IPTV College Wrestling broadcast that if Drake reinstated wrestling he would like to coach the team. The Bulldogs present the absolute model of the dilemna facing colleges that have dropped wrestling. As a private and, largely, tuition driven university they could use the extra 30 enrollments. Their enrollment is 59% female, so wrestling would help relieve the population imbalance. But - they have roughly 200 athletic roster spots for men and about 165 for women - thus Title IX is a huge roadblock for them. As for Kirkwood - I've exchanged emails with AD Wagemester a couple of times and he seems to have no interest in bringing back wrestling.

but....but....but....wrestling is a dying sport!! I'm so tired of hearing that crap. I realize that some institutions have let it go due to budget constraints but i don't believe that it is a lack of interest in the sport that kills the program, it's the lack of interest in wrestling for that particular program that kills it. If you look at any failing program it's normally due to a lack of success that results in a lack of attendance and therefore, a lack of revenue to teh program and school.
