Default Cael tries to clear the air RE the Cyclones

In the five months since Cael Sanderson announced he was leaving the head coaching position at Iowa State for Penn State, many in the college wrestling community continue to ask why.

Was there a huge increase in salary? Was there friction in the athletic department in Ames, Iowa?

In an article written by Sean Keeler for the Des Moines Register, Sanderson attempted to address some of those issues.

Funny how the comments at the bottom of the article are still arguing over whether Cael took the job because of money. Some people are just gonna believe want they want to believe.

For what all that man did for that program and their community, they all need to STFU and respect his wishes. Sometimes it's not about them, it's about Cael's goals. They should understand that a man of his caliber isn't going to be happy with Mediocrity. Threatening him and his family? feelings of betrayal? seriously, get over yourselves!!

The ISU fans HAVE moved on. Jackson is a great coach, and most of them are pretty happy about things. Cael did a lot for the program, but so did Nichols, Gibbons, and Douglas.

But let me get one thing straight, Cael was never mediocre at ISU, and Jackson won't be either. The term "mediocre" has never described wrestling at ISU.

As an Iowa fan I am torn. I can't stand ISU, but I don't want Cael in the Big Ten either. The man is one of the best there is and even though I don't like the teams he coaches, I have to say I like him.

By "mediocre". i was refferring to Cael never being able to recruit and beat Tom Brands within the State. There is no way even the great Cael can topple Mount Iowa's aura within the wrestling world.

At Penn State, he can recruit from the best talent pool in the nation and kick Tom Brand's ass...and yes...it will happen, and in short order.

Penn State will be better and much more fun to watch. Enjoy! But I repeat, nothing at ISU wrestling was, or will be, mediocre. Your choice of words was poor. Mediocrity better describes Penn State's record over many years, especially given "the best talent pool in the nation" that you speak about. Having Sanderson there should improve things. Let us know if you need more help from the state of Iowa.

But I wish you luck on that "kicking Tom Brands' ass" part. May not happen. And given Kevin Jackson's recruiting and abilities, Iowa State may kick Penn State's ass in the future too. Wouldn't that be fun?
