Let us know if you need more help from the state of Iowa.

But I wish you luck on that "kicking Tom Brands' ass" part. May not happen. And given Kevin Jackson's recruiting and abilities, Iowa State may kick Penn State's ass in the future too. Wouldn't that be fun?
My "poor choice of words" is your opinion. so be it. But don't play dumb as to what I was trying to say. You, me, and the rest of the wrestling nation understands what Cael is doing and why he is doing it. It falls inline with what i stated. and, Iowa State fans sending him and his fmily death threats isn't exactly "getting over it" Perhaps I should have called Iowa State fan's character "mediocre"

Penn State has been mediocre over the years under Sunderland, we can certainly agree on that. However. Cael can attract prospects from PA, NY, NJ, Ohio, VA and MD, which is the best talent pool in the country. If you want to argue that point, I can show you proof. And Cael is from Utah, so don't get all high and mighty about Iowa helping out PA.

Continue your wet dream about Iowa State kicking Penn State's ass if it makes ya tingle Shirley. but, if you were to look at the recruiting class this year as well as the commitments to PSU for next year, you'll see that things are favoring PSU.

Understand what Cael is doing? You mean moving on after disappointment?
Death threats? Where? Disappointment, Sure. Things change.
He didn't win those titles at Utah Valley State or Penn State did he?

There's more to wrestling than recruiting. One of the things I admire about a few coaches, like Tom Borrelli of Central Michigan, is that they consistently produce contending teams without necessarily getting all the most sought-after recruits. Great coaches turn good wrestlers into great ones. Not to say that Sanderson can't do the same, but its not just about recruiting.

Sanderson was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. But he has yet to prove his greatness as a coach. If he couldn't do it at ISU (and he couldn't win it all), he's not going to do it in the much tougher Big Ten. It's not just Iowa, but Ohio St (where the HS wrestling is the equal of PA), Minnesota, Michigan, Northwestern, Wisconsin. He bit off more than he can chew. Big name HS recruits do not a champion make. Great coaching develops champions. And, no, I detest Tom Brands. But maybe Penn St can draw more than a few hundred to a meet now.

He's been a coach for three years. He won the Big 12 three times. He has sent all 30 of his wrestlers to the NCAA tournament.

There is little question that Iowa and Ohio State appear to be pretty set for the next decade, but moving out to Penn State is, without question, a better move than staying in Ames.

While Iowa High School wrestling is indeed an impressive state, PA is significantly better. Many of PAs 2nd-5th best wrestlers are better than Iowa's state champs. (the same goes for MN, WI, and IL.)

Recruiting won't win his national titles. The guys he gets to walk-on and eventually become All-Americans & National Champions will.

I agree whole-heartedly with your last line. But winning the Big FIVE and sending all your wrestlers from a FIVE team conference (and probably should make that four, OU has sucked for years) isn't as difficult as it's made out to be. I'm not saying that moving to PSU wasn't a good move for him, but he handled it horribly. He owes a lot to ISU and their fans. If he had gone to PSU out of high school, he'd be coaching some high school team now.

When you talk of Iowa high school wrestling, you have to consider the population. Per capita, no other state comes close. Iowa is the heart of wrestling country. No where is the following more intense than northern Iowa-southern Minnesota. And just look at the small colleges, jr. colleges and high schools in the area. For such a small population, the wrestling is the best in the country.

Oh, and I never said that Iowa HS wrestling was the equal of PA. Again, a population thing. I said, or at least meant, Ohio, which has a population more in line with PA.

I agree with those who think Cael moved because he couldn't compete (fan-wise) with Iowa and Brands. I actually prefer Cael to Brands, who is a wonderful example of small-man complex. (Now I've started something.) And I am a lifelong and hardcore Hawkeye.

You mean Southern Minnesota isn't really part of Iowa? Always thought it was. Maybe it should be.

    Just kidding.

Think what you want about Cael, but if you think Ohio wrestling is on the level even close to PA you are very wrong.

Does Cael seem like a guy who would rush to a decision without weighing his options?

I do agree w/ whoever said that a good coach can take a good wrestler and make them great(or something to that effect) Makes me think about Brands w/ Dennis/Keddy/Erekson/Beatty. No big recruits but able to hang with the best(I realize that other coaches do similar things but Im and Iowa homer)
To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.

Speaking of making something out of walk-ons. Last year AA's for MIZZOU and three of them were walk-ons or had very minimal scholarship when they started out. Chandler, Marable, and Ellis.
