The Open Mat's ACC Preview

Nice preview detailing the conference this year done over there.

One thing that it pointed out to me that I didn't realize is that Duke may have a nice little team with Cortese and the Adamsons coming off of redshirt.

Not on the level of Maryland or the two Virginia schools, but definitely respectable.

I thought they were going to have a case of Dudziak, Barone, and everyone else gets pwned (yes I just made that up, yes I suck) but that doesn't appear like its going to happen at least on paper.

Who is Chaires and was that 32-9 freshman record at varsity ? 32 wins is a lot .

He's from New York.

Got smoked in the finals by Gillespie as a sophomore when Gillespie was a senior, then won two state titles. Also beat Reader at Fargo the year that Reader won and was OW en route to placing like 4th overall.

That 32-9 record was as Virginia's 165 as a true freshman, he then redshirted last year. Full match results are available below.

Glasser ,Swartz,Gallante -those are some impressive wins for a freshman -1 point loss to Lewnes .

Clar has been quietly building a solid little team over there in Durham. I'm interested to see how they do this year, it'll be fun to watch.

I gotta laugh at the fact that UNC's & Duke's teams are almost like their BB or Lacrosse team: NO ONE FROM NC on the starting line up! Tons of guys from NY & NJ & PA!

Is NC St the only school that seems to be able to recruit there?

And UVA has NO ONE from VA ontheir projected starting line up either. Very interesting. Is the quality of wrestling gotten that poor down south or just so much better in the Northeast?

^^^Speaking of the ACC, the PennJersey Terps' starting lineup usually is loaded with Pennsylvania and New Jersey wrestlers. Back in Maryland head coach Sully Krouse's day (1950's and 1960's), he used to hit PA like a hammer for starters.

Great preview, just about all the ACC teams are on the rise. Maryland looks like a buzzsaw this year...
