Default The futer of the Big Ten

I was browsing through some B10 lineups over at d1collegewrestling and I noticed that the B10 seems incredibly weak this year.

    Is it just me?

I counted 24 total AAs on b10 teams, several of whom will probably be redshirting/not starting this year.

I went back and looked at last years b10 tournament and counted 23 guys who had previously AAd at the time of 2008 B10s(undoutedly some redshirted or didnt start, like Slaton for example)

However there were also a ton of guys, like Humphrey, Tanelli, Russel, Patacsil, Ruschel, Sponseller, and M* who had proven to be studs in years past.

There were also super stud freshman like Wright, Sanders, Howe, Welch, etc who had established themselves as top guys, and people like Dennis and Erekson who had been around but hadn't really had an opportunity to show their stuff in years past.

I dont really get that feeling heading into this year. Is it just because we haven't given people time to establish themselves yet? I could see people like Blanton or Graff having big years. But it just doesn't seem to me that there is the same level of competition

Whats especially worrying to me is the graduation of multi AA studs. Only a few left last year: Falck, Poeta, Luke, Todd, Herbert but suddenly the conference seems depleted

Take a quick look at who is going to be gone next year:
Precin, Escobedo, Ness, Gomez, Kennedy, Humphrey, Palmer, Metcalf, Schlatter, Keddy, Pucillo. Jesus... And thats only guys who already HAVE multiple AAs. Five of them have chance to be 2 time champs, and five of them are also going for their 4th AA finish.

We'll also be losing: Dennis, Slaton, Ruschell, Morningstar, Vallimont, Borschel, Erekson, and probably some I have forgotten, all who have a chance at 2 AAs this season.

I know that these things are cyclical and that the B10 will always produce studs and there are recuits in the wings. But it makes you wonder... Its hard not to see a deep trough coming up for the b10

Being in VA, i have seen some biiig changes in many programs. UVA, VT, ODU, MD, NC ST(not good but a natl champ) Duke(had a finalist) The first three had top 10 recruiting classes. I think guys are staying more regional, and realizing you don't have to be in the b10 to win. Not to mention schools like Edinboro, Cornell adding to the Eastern Power.

Theres great wrestling in the east and more kids are staying there as opposed to midwest.

The b10 will always be great and probably the best wrestling conference but there has been a "redistribution of wealth" in my opinion.

Precin and Kennedy are both heavily rumored to be redshirting, so they'll at least be back.

I made mention of this in my Big 10 breakdown earlier in the summer. There are certain weights in the Big 10 that are kind of rough looking this year (157, 174, 285).

Then however you've got a weight at 165 just in the conference that goes 8 or 9 deep with national caliber guys.

I actually did fix the title for a second, but changed it back.
