Thread: Who/What Are You Excited To See? (09 Season)

Default Who/What Are You Excited To See? (09 Season)

In looking through my list of AA candidates for this coming year I came upon the idea for this thread.

Basically what wrestlers in particular for whatever reason are you excited to see this year?

Jordan Oliver, Alex Meade, Alan Gelogaev: I put these guys together since they're all on the same team. Oliver has had an unreal freestyle season this spring, Meade has had a solid spring and is a DE guy, and then I may be the most excited to see Gelogaev of the three just to see how good he actually is.

Andrew Howe: To see how much working with Frayer helps his top game

Jarrod Garnett, Chris Diaz: Much in the same vein as Meade, DE guys (both of whom were good last year) who I'm excited to see after another year in college.

Jake Varner: To see if he puts up bonus points at the same pace (or possibly an accelerated one) from last year.

Brent Metcalf: This may be surprising to some, but I'm interested to see how he builds off the loss to DC. If those fans (speaking about SOME, not all of them) of his that also fashion themselves as opponent bashers are a little quieter about things this year I may even root for him.

Jordan Burroughs: Takedowns, takedowns, and more takedowns.

Zach Sanders: To see what he's done in terms of putting on weight and working off the bottom.

Jayson Ness: After abusing Kennedy and Hochstrasser in his last two matches at NCAA's last year to see if he starts this year off at the same pace that he ended last year at.

Dustin Schlatter: I've said before I don't know if he scores as many points as when he was a freshman since most of the points he scored that year were from tilts, but I'm excited to see his activity level on his feet rise now that he's up two weights and healthy.

There are more, but if I wrote about everything that I'm excited/interested to see I'd be writing for a long time.

I'm excited about the Division III team race. With Coe's solid recruiting class, this year could legitimately be a 4 team race among the 2 'burgs, LAX and Coe (sorry eastern schools - I just don't see anyone else cracking the top 4).
2011 NAIA Wrestling Championships, March 3, 4 & 5, Cedar Rapids, IA. I'll see you there.

Reece Humphrey - I'm looking forward to seeing what weight he goes at. He's still listed at 133 on the OSU website, so we'll see.

Sean Nemec - A guy who came out of HS with great expectations. After two years in the room, I'm looking forward to seeing just how he stacks up when given the chance.

Jake Deitchler - I'm just interested to see how far along he's come in his transition back from greco. I expect him to improve more and more as the season goes on.

Dustin Schlatter - I look forward to seeing how much more active he is now that he's healthy and not cutting too much.

Tony Jameson - One of the more exciting kids to watch out of Ohio in a long time. We'll see if he still employs the same go for broke style and if that style translates to D1.

Penn State wrestling - how does Cael utilize all of the young talent in the room. Does he RS a lot of them and build for next year, or does he throw them in the deep end to see if they've got what it takes right now?

The Golden Gophers - how do they bounce back after a bit of a lackluster year. I'd love it to be the Buckeyes, but if anyone has a shot at dethroning the Hawks this year, I think it's Minnesota. Can they get it done at tournament time.

I think Reece being listed at 133 is just an oversight. Both Reece and Tom Ryan have said he will be at 141 this year.

I'm excited to see Jameson, too, but I don't know how much we will see him. He should be great depth for 149-165.

I figured he'd go 141 now that Jaggers is out of the way. If so, I'm even more interested in seeing how Humphrey does w/o having that killer cut he's been doing for the last two years.

That may leave Jameson in a similar position to Nemec last year.

I should have added that I'm interested to see the continued progression of the entire Buckeye squad. They've been just a little bit better every year under Ryan, so it'll be interesting to see if they are able to take another step forward.

Since I am from IN of course I am interested in all wrestlers from this state. That being said good wrestling is good wrestling this year is going to be very interesting there could be a lot of wrestlers who have a breakout year. Below are some of the people and events I am looking forward to in the upcoming season.

    Andrew Howe, Wisconsin
    Cael Sanderson, Penn State
    Tom Brands, Iowa
Rob Koll, Cornell(read the newsletter loved the humor)
Michigan State has several wrestlers from my area
Minnesota ,Ness (very exciting wrestler IMHO)
    Indiana, Angel
Nebraska's Brester (what a compeitior overshadowed by Varner)
    Kevin Jackson, Iowa State
    Oklahoma State
I am getting excited just typing this list out I could go on and on.

Well obviously really anxious to see who starts for the hawkeyes at 25, and 41 along with the rest of the hawkeyes.

Anthony Robles-I love this guys, and really want to see what adjustments he makes from neutral, and if he'll have any new tricks on top and how Charles, Askren, and Ray J in the room help him and others. Also want to see how guys wrestle him.

Darrion Caldwell/Brent Metcalf- I want to see it one more time! Can't wait to find out whether Caldwell will wrestle or not.

Okey sts 97 lber Golgaev. How good is he? Can he challenge Varner? I hope so.

What Cael does this year: will he redshirt his best kids til all his recruits are there or will he field his best team?

The up and coming VA programs ODU, UVA, VT. I plan taking some of my guys to some of their duals, and I hope they all can get some AA's.

I could go on, but I digress.

    I'm excited about:

Ok. St vs Minnesota (preview of next years finals?) Their combined rosters read like the Intermat High School rankings from the last two years. Great talent plus great coaching equals great results.

Leclere and Slaton of the Hawkeyes:
I'm a Linn County homer, and these guys have one more year to show what a couple of guys from Linn County can do. Get to it guys.

Dustin Kilgore of Kent State. Maybe we'll see more flashes of brilliance this year from him.

The Brands Bros. Did you think they'd just sit back and relax after winning with NO national champions last year? I don't. They won, but they still have something to prove. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

    Andrew Howe, Wisconsin
Like everyone else, I predict great things from this guy with a little more development.

Zach Sanders. I like the way this guy wrestles, and he's fun to watch. He'll need to step it up a notch for Nickerson, though.

I'm most excited to see which true freshman does the best this year.

Jameson is challenging at 57, he stated that on an interview on buckeyewrestling.com
I am interested to see how well Kent State will do, Bendelyon,Mitcheff, new kid Skoziency(sp),Cathell,Shuster,Kilgore,Cogar,Barlow they will have a very interesting team as will Central. The MAC has 2 possible top 10 programs that may be a stretch but I see both of them no lower than top 15
