Thread: Could Schlatter go 157?

  1. #1

    Default Could Schlatter go 157?

It seemed as though he for sure would be at 165 this year but a b10 article quoted him as saying he'd go either 157 or 165.

What factors will determine his choice?

    Would Dietchler go 165 then?

157 would seemingly be the path of least resistance(with one BIG roadbloack)

Whereas 165 would feature a number of very adequate foes(among which he would possibly be the narrow favorite)

I think that he should go where he is most comfortable. He's has the talent to win at 157(yes there is a big roadblock) or 165 where there is lots of great talent but not a superstar IMO and he wont' have to cut as much. He is handle 165 or so in FS with postgrad talent so it makes sense to me that he stays there.

    I'm sure he probably could...

However I doubt it. He's a very well sized 163 already as can been seen from his matches this summer, in comparison to Deitchler (who would one would assume wrestle 165 if Dustin went 157) who is still trying to grow into that weight.

Deitchler's pretty small, he said he naturally weighed under 74 kg (163 lbs) when he was wrestling greco this year.

    Thats what I mean.

It wouldn't make a ton of sense in the weight aspect, or in the aspect of looking at how Schlatter and Deitchler match up at the two weight classes.

Schlatter in all likelihood win 157 going away if he wrestles like he did this spring, and while he probably should be the favorite at 165 its a tougher weight class that Deitchler were he to wrestle there would probably have a tougher time with than he would down at 157.

Schlatter "in all likelihood wins 157 going away"? I think that's a bit of an overstatement.

Ahhh. Well than yes, he likely wins easily. Sorry for the confusion.

Would DS weight his senior year be up to J. Rob? If DS wanted to go 157 you'd think that J would allow him to do that if it's where he felt comfortable.

At 157 in my opinion worst case scenario is 2nd.

At 165 he could be the favorite, but that is meaningless because worst case he could finish 6th(although unlikely)

Dustin would have to win quite a few tough matches just to reach the finals of 165, whereas at 157 very few would match his pedigree until JB.
