This should help Jason Welch quite a bit.. Matt Storniolo Joins NU Staff as Assistant Coach 7/24/2009 Matt Storniolo, a two-time All-American at 149 pounds while wrestling for Oklahoma, is the newest addition to Northwestern's coaching staff, head coach Tim Cysewski announced on Friday. Storniolo (pictured) has spent the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant at Old Dominion where he trained closely with Ryan Williams, the 2009 NCAA runner-up at 141 pounds. More |

Matt went to State College, PA High School same school NCAA champ & current Cornell Coach Rob Koll went to. He attended PSU his freshmen year then transferred 2 OU. His senior year @ SCHS his was PIAA champ & lead them to 2nd place @ States. Should be a very good asset 2 NW! Good Luck Matt!

Coming from an Old Dominion alum, we're sad to see Storno leave, because he played an amazing role in developing Ryan Williams. Williams was an NCAA qualifier as a freshman at 133, didn't qualify as a sophomore at 141 (behind Griffin and Fisch, two All-Americans). Then when Storno arrived, Willie's performance improved before peaking this year with an appearance in the NCAA finals. This is a great move for Northwestern and for Storno, because he's a great mat technician and will continue to develop winners. Starting small, at a program like ODU, as a volunteer, help kids improve to show you have coaching ability and then boom, move on to a higher-level program is a good step in being upwardly mobile. Again, I hate to lose him at ODU, but it's the right move for him.

Btw Ryan was another PA schoolboy PSU didnt get, (to go along with 2 other PA NCAA finalists Jake Herbert & Jarrod King)! Cael's 2010 class I think is already starting to show a marked change in that!

Williams wasn't even on PSU's radar, one-time placer (7th) and injured his senior year. Williams was only being recruited with any substance by Bloomsburg and ODU.
