IU faces several of the same problems -the big 2 -football and basketball- and Soccer , Swimming ,Track and Field and recently , baseball , have surged into national prominence-I can't recall the # of soccer title Yeagley brought back and Doc Counselman was the man back in the day and those programs continue to excel-so even if the interpretation becomes equity not equality -Wrestling will remain the red headed step child at IU . Any time a school pays the basketball coach 800% more in salary than the wrestling coach -something is wrong . |

Wrestling and other sports are classified non-revenue for a reason. Maryland won two national championships this past year, five ACC champioships, and women's lacrosse reached the final four. I disagree with one portion of the article. Wrestling's success at Maryland over the past two years places us among the top five teams in the department, in my unbiased opinion. We're behind men's soccer(Nat Champs), women's lacrosse (ACC champs/final 4), women's basketball (ACC champs) and field hockey (Nat Champs/ACC champs) but that's about it. I think our success was one of the factors in the recent dismissal of three coaches this year who have similar scholarship support but nowhere near wrestling's success. It is satisfying when something you have said to people in the athletic department for nearly 20 years is proven true. And that is, with the proper level of support, Maryland wrestling can be among the top programs in the country.

Speaking of Maryland Wrestling, I am helping Kerry McCoy set up a Terps Blog where he will be posting news and video clips too. So any Terps fans might want to subscribe to http://www.terpswrestling.com/blog in the near future, once Kerry gets started posting content on there more regularly. He plans to post a lot of videos on there.
