July 7, 2009 Wrestling Adds Transfer Ryan Smith to 2009-10 Roster Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling program adds transfer Ryan Smith from Oklahoma to the 2009-10 roster. Smith, from Prineville, Ore., spent two seasons with the Sooners, redshirting his true freshman season. He compiled a 16-12 career record with five pins at 165 pounds, finishing 9-7 in duals. Smith tallied 70 total dual points with one win over a top 20 ranked opponent. He finished fifth at the Big 12 Tournament, earning a bid to the 2009 NCAA Championships. At Crook County High School, Smith was a three-time Oregon state champion at three different weights – 125, 140 and 160 pounds. He was a 2006 freestyle national qualifier, finishing second, while placing third at Greco Nationals. He was named to the 2007 Wrestling USA Magazine’s High School All-America Team after compiling a 157-7 record in his prep career at 160 pounds. The Beavers kick off the 2009-10 campaign at the Best of the West Tournament in Ashland, Ore., on November 13-14. doesn't Oregon State already have Brasceta and Davis at that weight ?? Or are they planning on moving someone to 74 now that Bressler graduated ?? With Scholarship money so tight why make this move ?? |
