Unlike you to miss other reasons Mark!!

    1. You touch on it but we have a limited pool of fans. Adjusting the season allows them to attend more events. Last decade on the same weekend we hosted the ACCs at Maryland, the EIWAs were at Navy, the Eastern Regionals at Coppin, the CAAs at George Mason....the same weekend as the Maryland and Virginia HS state tourneys!!

    2. Minimizes weather as a factor. We were snowed on in Detroit!

    3. If wrestling becomes a one semester sport it decreases the academic pressure on our athletes. Especially critical now with the APR. This can also be coupled with the weight loss issue.

4 You mentioned the increased chance of getting media attention during what is sort of a dead period in the sports calendar.

Only some early season events would be affected. Traditional tournaments like the Midlands could almost serve as the starting events of the college season.

    Steve,

You must be a member in good standing of the Psychic Friends Network... because I'm working on a follow-up article that incorporates much of what you're saying. I hope to post it later today.

    Thanks for reading,

I don't have all the dates in my head right now, but wouldn't that move the NCAA championships closer to the World Team Trials as well? If you give the NCAA champ an automatic qualifying spot like they used to do, this might help more college wrestlers compete in freestyle.

It certainly would help most the collegiates with weight issues, not having to lose what was gained during the 3-4 weeks between. On the other hand, it may hurt some that need to drop to a lower Greek weight class by minimizing the time available to do so.
