You'll notice that both wrestlers were given their release.

It does appear that way, much like Caldwell was given a release to go play football, but not to wrestle. These releases are anything but standard as we can clearly see. 3 different wrestlers, 3 much different releases where 2 of those 3 are not able to wrestle where they want to. But these wrestlers know that going in, so I don't really see any reason for anyone to complain.

LOL, I'm sure you don't, Adolf. As we are proving time and again, a vast majority of the time, a release is granted. Not granting a release is the exception.

I agree with Vak. Examples Pucillo to Ohio State from Hofstra, Gardner to Ohio State from VT, Burke to ISU from Northern Illinois, Covington to Oregon State from Iowa, Mocco to Ok State from Iowa, Brinzer to Iowa from Ok State those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I just read the rule somewhere, I'd have to look it up. The release is anything but standard, it is actually the exception. They do make a lot of exceptions, I will give you that. Some of them even allow the wrestler to go and wrestle where they want to. Caldwell and Clark for example, were not allowed.

So, you are claiming it is more common for a college to deny a release then to grant a release to a wrestler wishing to transfer?

mORE Common? I wouldn't know that without looking at some numbers. What I am saying is that a release is an exception to the rule of athletes losing a year if they transfer. There is nothing standard about it. The school has to make an exception and grant one. And in many cases like Clark and Caldwell, they grant releases where they are useless to the athlete because they exclude wrestling where they want to transfer to.

Many fans incorrectly believe that releases are standard and that the schools screw over athletes when they don't grant one, feeling that they have changed the procedure and thus issue no release. That simply is not the case. Releases are the exception and when a school grants one, they've gone out of their way to accomodate the athlete.

If I was the coach I would rather grant the release and free up the money for a wrestler that wants to be part of your program. You really don"t want someone that doesn't want to be there.

Here you go Zapp, I went ahead and looked it up for you.

The NCAA rule is that a transfer from a four-year school to another four-year school is required to sit out a full academic year unless they qualify for an exception. A one-time transfer exception is the most common exception that allows a transfer to play right away (DI football, basketball, baseball* and men's hockey don't have this exception). To receive this exception a student must never have transferred from a four-year school before, qualify academically, and have a release from the first school saying it does not object to the granting of the exception. Conferences and individual schools can have their own more restrictive transfer rules.

The NCAA publishes a transfer guide which is a must read for anyone considering a transfer:
