    Default Winston to redshirt

Going to be redshirting this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him move up to 165.

Edit - tried some trickery to get the link to work, click the link below as the embedded video isn't working.

Be interesting to see if Welch goes and decides to redshirt too.

Saw great success this year obviously being a Big 10 finalist but I've got to wonder if a redshirt year to try and fill out a little bit more wouldn't wind up doing him some good.

I agree about Welch, he definitely needs to physically mature. But then again he's competitive and Northwestern certainly doesn't have a deep room so it would be a big loss teamwise.

he may not admit it, but he's gotta regret not taking his redshirt this year. Still don't understand why he wouldn't just take a RS and have a real shot at 4x all american

I hear ya va but lets hope it betters him for the long term. Now he knows what his weaknesses are and can spend the next year focusing on them. Having becker and cooperman to work with he can put heavy emphasis on his mat wrestling and scrambling. He is already a supreme athlete and has great skills from his feet but he needs to improve from top and bottom and in transition.

In high school he was able to take everyone down at will he never had to really worry about riding someone or getting out from bottom. He has the explosive standup but if he gets broken down he needs to be able to get back up.

Against a funky guy like welch he got caught in some scrambles that put him bad situations. I think a year spent with funk masters like cooperman and becker will do wonders.

I have no doubt he has the work ethic and physical abilities to be a multiple time all american and national champ.

He lost to Saf almost entirely because he lacked mat wrestling/scrambling ability.
    Gold is an idiot.

His studliness in High school and his prowess from neutral and basically never being ridden I thought made him a poster child for someone who should RS as a freshmen. He'll be Nasty in 2010. I'm guessin 165-174.

I remember picking Saf to upset him for precisely that reason.

Winston had a great year last year, but picking Saf to upset him in the first round last year was a gimmee.

I was all depressed bout saf making AA halfway through the season and then I saw the bracket...

Moley, Winston, then the loser of Sanderson/Hall

Couldnt ask for a better bracket then that at 157... I picked him to AA
