I "heard" that Varner had a meeting with Pollard a day or two after Cael left. I don't know what was discussed, only that they sat down and talked.

I also heard the same, Wiltz. Theories ranged from asking for a release to getting input on a new coach

There is an interview on the ISU site where Varner says he's staying. This was after Jackson was hired.

I have no idea if this will work, but...http://www.cyclones.com/newMediaPlay...mid=10700&KEY=

(Maybe Schlottke could embed it for me if that's possible )
You do the math..... I'll do the alfredo!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

I'm not Varner, but it doesn't make sense for any of those 5th-year seniors (including Cyler) to leave a quality school with a quality wrestling program when they (presumably) have less than a year to graduate, to go to another school where they'd have to earn, at a minimum, 30 new credits, and maybe have to sit out a year (not sure about the last part).

Varner is arguably the best wrestler in the nation still in college, and I bet he'll remain the best wrestler, with or without Cael.

Wasn't Jackson also the national team coach for a while? This might actually help Varner if he plans on having international freestyle sucess.

I'll admit I dont follow freestyle extensively so I dont know how Varner has done so far, but I could see him being very successful internationally. He is a master of winning those 1-0 2-0 kinds of matches and I could see him being a monster with the pushout rule, given his tremendous physical strength.
    Gold is an idiot.

I'm not an ISU fan, but I'm glad they let Taylor and others go elsewhere.

Conversely, it was unfair and it sucked when VaTech wouldn't let Metcalf go. It was the only thing standing between him and four titles. Well, that and the thumping he took from Caldwell.
