MARQUEE MATCH-UPS
There are six marquee match-ups based on the probable starters for this weekend's duals in Iowa City. The individual rankings listed below are the most recent from the NWCA/Intermat/NWCA poll.

141 - #1 Alex Tsirtsis vs. #3 Zach Tanelli
Tanelli won the first career meeting between the two - a 10-3 decision in the championship final of the 2008 Midlands. Tsirtsis has been looking for a rematch. Tsirtsis held a 3-2 lead early in the third period of his match. He took a brief injury timeout after colliding with Tanelli during an offensive flurry. After the timeout, Tanelli scored a takedown, rolled off two three-point nearfalls and secured the riding time point to win 10-3. That match is Tsirtsis' only loss (16-1) of the season, and he brings a five-match winning streak to the dual. Tanelli is 16-3 and currently riding his own nine-match winning streak.

149 - #1 Brent Metcalf vs. #6 Kyle Ruschell
Metcalf owned the first meeting between the two - a 14-5 major decision in the championship final of the 2008 Midlands. The Hawkeye junior is 20-0 with a 52-match winning streak. Ruschell is 17-4 this season.

165 - #3 Ryan Morningstar vs. #9 Andrew Howe
This will be the first meeting between Morningstar and Howe. The Hawkeye junior brings a 18-2 record to the dual, while Howe is 14-4.

Hwt - #12 Dan Erekson vs. #7 Kyle Massey
This will be the first meeting between Erekson and Massey. The Hawkeye junior brings a 14-5 record to the dual, while Massey has a season record of 15-5.

HAWKEYES LOOK TO EXTEND WINNING STREAKS
Iowa has won its last 29 duals, and its last 25 duals away from Iowa City. The school record for overall consecutive dual wins is 42 (1994-97), and for consecutive away dual wins is 31 (1994-97). The 25 straight away duals rank second best in school history. Hawkeye junior Brent Metcalf (149) also has a winning streak of his own, winning his last 52 bouts.

LAST MEETING - IOWA 22, WISCONSIN 20
Top-ranked Iowa used bonus points to defeat #13/#15 Wisconsin, 22-20, Feb. 3 at Madison, WI. Each team won five matches, but the Hawkeyes used pins from sophomores Brent Metcalf (149) and Phillip Keddy (184) and a major decision by sophomore Jay Borschel (174) to win their ninth-straight dual. Head Coach Tom Brands picked up his 30th win at Iowa and his 10th in the Big Ten, as Iowa improved to 16-1, 5-0 Big Ten. Wisconsin fell to 11-3-1, 2-2.

Re: Wisconsin vs. Iowa Discussion/Results

It sounds like a very mixed dual for Wisconsin; the Tanelli, Howe, and Jordan wins are huge, but the Ruschell pin and Massey's loss have to be downers...

Re: Wisconsin vs. Iowa Discussion/Results

Massey has been a huge disappointment, for someone that big to not know how to push and control ties is ridiculous. Hwt this year is the weakest I can ever remember of the 10 weights it is by far the weakest

Re: Wisconsin vs. Iowa Discussion/Results

It was fun to watch... Davis was fired up all night... the Brands brothers may have been a bit calm... but they were feeding the frenzy with various hand jestures. They didn't argue the issue too much... they knew they didn't have much of a case in this situation... had they thought differently they would have been as animated as Davis.

149... Metcalf got a bit of a scare... put to his back but managed to roll through.

Re: Wisconsin vs. Iowa Discussion/Results

The whole incident after Howe/ M* was pretty hilarious. Barry was going nuts and the Brands were actually half way calm. Then when Gable went over to talk to Barry the place lit up. I think Gable said something to the effect "You're my boy and I put you over my knee and spank your behind if you don't behave!" (I'm joking of course) The announcer even asked over the PA if "The Wisconsin coach would please return to his corner and please stay there." No joke! It was a riot. It took them forever to figure out the score, but I knew Howe had a hair more of riding time. Neither guy deserved to have their hand raised as they both stunk the place up. Horrible, horrible wrestling on both their parts. Wisconsin put up a good fight. Barry Davis is my all time favorite Iowa wrestler and after tonight I love him even more. He was lit up the whole meet and it was great.

Re: Wisconsin vs. Iowa Discussion/Results

Herbst beats Beatty 2-1. 21-12 Iowa

Erekson weighed in at 247 today which is apparently the heaviest he's weighed in at yet. He's tied 2-2 with Massey after 2.

184, Keddy throws Wiscy guy to his back.

9-1 Keddy at the end of 2.

Keddy wins 17-4. 21-9. Wiscy needs two pins to win.

3-2 Rutt heading into the 3rd.

Jay escapes, and then grabs a TD. 5-3 Borschel. SW on Rutt on bottom. SW again, 6-3 Borschel. Borschel wins 7-3with RT, I assume.

Re: Wisconsin vs. Iowa Discussion/Results

I can't fathom how that was so difficult to figure out.

The radio feed picked up someone yelling "you don't know the rules!" at the table.
