RALEIGH, N.C. - In only its first season on the job, the NC State wrestling staff is already seeing the results of its hard work on the recruiting trail. The Pack's incoming freshmen class has been ranked fourth nationally by D1collegewrestling.net. Among the 14 signees already announced, the Pack inked six of D1collegewrestling's top 200 recruits, the second-highest total in the nation.
"This class brings a high level of talent and the exact attitude that we need here at NC State," said head coach Pat Popolizio. "Our coaching staff is extremely excited to begin developing this class into a group that will compete for NCAA and ACC individual and team titles, as well as Academic All-American honors."
Here is D1collegewrestling's recap of the Pack's signees:
Head Coach Pat Popolizio's first full recruiting class at NC State is one to write home about. Six Wolfpack recruits are among D1CW's top 200 recruits, only Michigan has more. The class will provide NC State with a huge talent upgrade at almost all 10 weight classes. National runner-up Micah Perez and two-time Missouri state champion Chris Wilkes will help man the lower weights. With a California state title to his credit, Peter Santos rose from unranked in the preseason to #48 overall by D1CW. Another single-class state champion enrolling at NC State will be New Jersey's Scott DelVecchio. Pennsylvania state champ Pete Renda has a ton of national-level credentials including a win at FloNational's and a third place finish at the Super 32.* Three-time Virginia state champion Beau Donahue was a late signee who will help bolster the Wolfpack middleweights.
In addition to the No. 4 ranking according to D1collegewrestling, the Pack's incoming class has also been ranked No. 10 by both WIN Magazine and InterMat, No. 13 by the Open Mat/AWN and No. 14 by Flo Wrestling.
