PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 20, 2013) – Rutgers wrestling’s Greg Zannetti (Edison, N.J.) and Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) have each been named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Individual All-Academic Team for the 2012-13 season, it was announced Monday. There were 82 total Division I wrestlers on the on this year’s Individual All-Academic Team.
As a redshirt senior, Zannetti qualified for his second NCAA Championships at 174 pounds. He posted a 27-10 record this season, finishing his career with 91 total victories. It was the second-straight NWCA All-Academic Team honor for the Sociology major.
In his redshirt freshman season, Smith received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships at 285 pounds. He compiled a 27-9 overall record, including a 17-3 mark in dual contests. The History major’s 17 dual wins were a team-best.
In order to receive NWCA All-Academic honors, Smith and Zannetti had to achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and win 60 percent of their total schedule, and/or qualify for the 2013 NCAA Championships.
