LAS VEGAS – Four current and future Northwestern wrestlers were in Las Vegas this past weekend competing at the 2013 FILA Junior National Championships and at the Western Junior Regional. *
Redshirt freshman Jason Tsirtsis (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) dominated the competition in the 66 kg/145.5 lbs. freestyle division at the FILA Junior National Championships and defeated five opponents to take home the title. Tsirtsis did not surrender a point all tournament as he recorded four tech falls, including one in the finals.
Incoming freshman Mitch Sliga (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) also competed at the FILA Junior National Championships and placed seventh at 84 kg/185 lbs. He won two matches in the championship round and two more in the wrestlebacks to finish amongst the top eight.Redshirt freshman Ben Sullivan (Eagle River, Alaska/Apple Valley) went 2-2 in the 74 kg/163 lbs. division while another incoming freshman, Jacob Schmitt (Dewitt, Mich./St. Johns) wrestled in the 60 kg/132 lbs. weight class at the FILA Junior National Championships. Schmitt captured two titles earlier in the week as he won his 132 lbs. weight class in freestyle and Greco-Roman at the Western Junior Regional, which also took place in Las Vegas.
