DES MOINES, IOWA - NC State junior Joe DeAngelo kept fighting back, but fell in the wrestlebacks Friday at the 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championships in the 125-pound weight class.
DeAngelo lost in the first round yesterday, but came back and won in the night session to advance to the second day of action on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa.
He fell in the second period of sudden victory to Steve Mitcheff of Kent State, 7-5.
After a scoreless first period, DeAngelo scored first with a takedown sandwiched around a pair of Mitcheff escapes to even things up at 2-2. Mitcheff scored his own takedown and took a 4-2 lead into the final period.
DeAngelo got the lone points in the third period on a takedown to even things up at 4-4 at the end of three periods.
After a scoreless first sudden victory, both wrestlers recorded an escape in the tiebreak and forced a second sudden victory. Mitcheff came through with a takedown with just seven seconds left to record a 7-5 win.
DeAngelo joined the Pack in January and had a strong season at 125 pounds for the Pack.
