INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Iowa State will be sending seven wrestlers to the 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championships next week in Des Moines, Iowa. Cyclone heavyweight Matt Gibson received one of five at-large bids available at 285 pounds to the national tournament, NCAA wrestling officials announced this afternoon.
Gibson joins six other Cyclones who already punched their tickets to Des Moines March 9 at the conference tournament in Stillwater, Okla.
The Vallejo, Calif. native is now a two-time NCAA qualifier in three years of competition at Iowa State. Gibson, who finished second at last week's Big 12 Championships behind No. 2 Alan Gelogaev of Oklahoma State, is 17-9 overall on the year and 8-6 in duals.
Iowa State is the host school for this year's national tournament, which is set to begin Thursday, March 21 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
