A$$ kicking...thank god the heavy came through or there would have been an early white wash on the board...

Actually Boise State competed in this exhibition dual match (it didn't count for either team) without several starters. Cam Jones will likely be the starter this season for Boise State at 141 lbs and he sat this dual out. Nate Lee will start this season for Boise State at either 174 lbs or 184 lbs (not sure which) but he is currently out with an injury. Kirk Smith, a true freshman (2007 HS Senior Nat'l champion at 171 lbs), may or may not start this season at 174 lbs and Boise State's starter at heavyweight this season (Nick Smith) went duck hunting rather than attend this match. So Boise State competed in this dual match against North Idaho College without at least three starters in the lineup.

Bartelli will be the starter this season at 125 lbs. Cory Fish will be the starter this season at 133 lbs. Adam Hall will be the starter this season for BSU at 149 lbs. Tyler Sherfey will start this season at 157 lbs. Nunez or Swartz (one of the two) will start at 165 lbs. Kirk Smith or Nate Lee will start at 174 lbs. Nate Lee or Matt Casperson will start at 184 lbs. Matt Casperson or Ryan Allen will start at 197 lbs. And Nick Smith will start this season for BSU at 285 lbs (Andy Patrick is utilizing an Olympic RS year).

Guess I was mistaken about at least one thing. Kirk Smith, apparently, will be competing at 184 lbs not at 174 lbs. He won the Elite Division of the Cowboy Open tournament last Saturday at 184 lbs and he weighed in at 183.00 lbs. But he competed "Unattached", i.e., not as a representative of Boise State. They (the BSU coaches) want to see how he does in these Open tournaments before they decide whether or not to redshirt him this season. He is, after all, a true freshman this season. But he got off to a pretty good start by taking 1st place on Saturday at the Cowboy Open Elite Division tournament. He defeated two guys who are currently ranked # 4 in the nation and # 6 in the nation in the pre-season Division II rankings at the Cowboy Open tournament.

Frankly I'd say the odds of him being in the starting lineup this season for Boise State, as a true freshman, are pretty good.
