The NC State wrestling team won five of the 10 matches against No. 21 Maryland, but a forfeit at 133 pounds gave the Terps the late bonus points in the 22-19 defeat of the Wolfpack in Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday.
NC State started the dual meet winning the first three matches of the day.
The meet started at 149 pounds. With the score tied in the final 10 seconds, NC State sophomore Thomas Gantt scored a takedown and picked up a 4-2 win.
At 157 pounds, junior Matt Nereim won his third straight ACC bout for the Pack, as he picked up an 18-7 major decision over T.J. Guidice.
No. 21 Nijel Jones made it three straight wins for the Pack, after his 8-5 decision over Domenic DeRobertis at 165 pounds.
After the first three matches, NC State held a 10-0 lead.
Maryland got on the scoreboard as No. 6 Josh Asper recorded an 8-4 decision over NC State's Patrick Davis at 174 pounds, and No. 7 Jimmy Sheptock scored a 15-0 technical fall over Keegan Cerwinski, 15-0.
After five bouts, NC State held a 10-8 lead.
After the intermission at 197 pounds, Maryland's Ty Snook scored a 15-0 technical fall over Bill Cook. Maryland also earned a 3-2 decision at 285 pounds, with Dallas Brown defeating Mike Kosoy to take a 16-10 team lead.
NC State closed the dual meet with two wins in the final three matches, with its lone loss a forfeit.
At 125 pounds, NC State's Joe DeAngelo picked up his first ACC victory, 5-2 over Paul O'Neill to close the score to 16-13.
NC State had to forfeit at 133, giving Maryland six points to extend the Terps lead to 22-13.
NC State's Tyler Hunt closed out the meet with a pin of Shane Arechiga in overtime to make the final count 22-19.
