Zach Bintliff earned a 12-3 major decision over Columbia Friday night.
Princeton sophomores Garrett Frey and Zach Bintliff each picked up victories for the wrestling team, but the Tigers dropped their road weekend opener 32-8 at Columbia.
Both Frey and Bintliff helped the team get off to a good start in the match held at the New York Athletic Club. Frey, ranked 18th in the latest InterMat rankings, scored a 12-3 major over Penn Gottfried at 125. Following a loss by Tony Comunale at 133, Bintliff came back and scored a major over Josh Houldsworth 12-3 to give Princeton an 8-3 lead.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, it wouldn't last. Columbia got a major from Shane Strumwasser at 149 and an 11-9 overtime win for Jake O'Hara over Daniel Kolodzik in the match of the night. A pin and a forfeit in the next two weights left the Tigers down 22-8. Princeton senior Travis Erdman dropped a 6-1 decision at 184 to Nick Mills and Tiger freshman Dan Santoro, one of the heroes of last week's comeback win over Brown, lost a tight 7-5 match at 197. The evening concluded with a 13-4 major from 20th-ranked Kevin Lester at heavyweight to finish off the 32-8 win.
It will get no easier for Princeton, which heads to Ithaca tonight to compete against the top-ranked Cornell Big Red tomorrow afternoon.
