RALEIGH, N.C. ? NC State returns to the wrestling mat on Saturday, hosting a tri-meet at Reynolds Coliseum. The action will begin at 4 p.m., with Campbell and Ohio University joining the Wolfpack for a tripleheader of dual matches.
NC State (6-4) will wrestle Campbell (1-11) at 4 p.m. Campbell will take on Ohio University (4-3) at 5:30, and the Wolfpack and Bobcats will face one another in the finale beginning at 7. Admission is free.
Live stats for both of NC State?s matches will be available from the National Wrestling Coaches Association website. Click here for the NC State-Campbell match, and click here for the NC State-Ohio University match.
The action will be the first for NC State since it split a pair of duals last weekend in the state of Virginia. The Pack defeated VMI 23-15 on Jan. 14, then dropped its ACC opener at Virginia the following day by a 26-12 score.
?We wrestled well last weekend, and we?re looking to build on that on Saturday,? NC State head coach Carter Jordan said. ?We?re trying to build momentum through the regular season and reach a peak as we get to March and the conference and national tournaments. Last weekend (at VMI and UVa) we were aggressive and wrestled hard. We keep getting better incrementally, and we need to continue that.?
The match vs. Ohio University will feature a pair of headliner bouts. At 141 pounds, redshirt-junior Darrius Little will put his 19-6 mark on the line against Germaine Lindsey, who is 19-4 and ranked No. 19 in the latest intermatwrestle.com poll. Lindsey recently lost a 3-1 decision to Oklahoma?s Zach Bailey at the NWCA All-Star Classic. Bailey, currently ranked No. 6, defeated Little 7-6 in a dual match on Nov. 27 in Norman.?Lindsey wrestled Bailey to a standoff for nearly seven minutes and lost on a late takedown,? Jordan said. ?Darrius had a big lead when he wrestled Bailey in November and then got overly cautious and lost on a late takedown. Lindsey is an excellent wrestler and highly regarded nationally. Darrius is having a great season for us. It should be a great matchup.?
At heavyweight, Ohio?s Jeremy Johnson is 22-7 and ranked No. 20 in the latest poll. The Pack?s Eloheim Palma brings a 9-5 mark into the match after dropping a pair of decisions to standout heavyweights last weekend at VMI and Virginia. He faced Johnson at the Southern Scuffle on Dec. 30 and lost 6-1.
?Eloheim was a high school national champion and won 23 matches as a freshman for us last year, so we know he?s capable of big things for us,? Jordan said. ?He?s faced some really tough opponents this season, including Johnson, who is probably better than his ranking. It?ll be a challenge for Eloheim, but one that we know he can meet.?
