CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ? The Iowa State wrestling team placed six of its athletes among the top-six place-winners in their respective weight classes at the UNI Open Saturday.

Leading the way for the Cyclones was true freshman Mike Moreno. The Urbandale graduate earned three straight bonus-point victories before falling in the finals to Aaron Janssen of Iowa by a score of 3-0 in the 165-pound finals.

Iowa State?s true freshman Ryak Finch continued his strong season by snatching up a third-place finish at 125 pounds. With a record of 4-1 on the day, Finch now has an 11-1 mark this season.

After a tough night on Friday, true freshman Brandon Jones captured a fifth-place finish. Jones, who starts for the Cyclones at 133-pounds, won three matches on the backside to earn a place.

In his first action of the year, true freshman Luke Goettl placed fifth at 141 pounds. Goettl racked up two major decisions on the back side to ensure a place.

Redshirt sophomore Max Mayfield once again did the dirty work on the backside of the 149-pound bracket. After falling in his first match, Mayfield had to pull off three straight wins to earn a sixth-place finish.

Mike England fell to the eventual runner-up in a tightly contested semi-finals match. England then pinned Iowa?s Jeremy Fahler in the first period before falling in a back-and-forth battle to end up with a fourth-place finish.

The Cyclones are next in action at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill. on Dec. 29 and 30.
