The 189-pounder capped a remarkable career with a big senior season.

What?s the right word to describe the postseason tournament run that Upper Moreland?s John Bolich (No. 9 @ 189) put together in late February and early March?

Dominating? Not good enough.

Surreal? That?s closer.

Incredible? Yeah, that?s pretty good.

All Bolich did, on his way to earning a second straight PIAA Class AAA state medal, was go 13-1 in the tournaments with nine pins, two technical falls and a pair of major decisions on the way to a third-place state finish at 189 pounds. Three of the pins and one of the majors came in Hershey, which just isn?t done very often.

?Last June, John started destroying kids who had placed at states and then, around districts and regionals this year, he made another progression,? said UM coach Dave Bolich, who is also John?s father.

?He?s just a student of the sport and he?s always trying to get better.?

Bolich finished his senior season 41-1 (25 pins) with his only loss ? an 8-5 decision ? coming in the state semifinals against two-time state champion Kenny Courts (No. 3 @ 189). That loss dropped Bolich into the consolation round, where he eventually ended his high school career by pinning Pittsburgh Central Catholic?s Perry Hills (H.M. @ 189) to wrap up third place.
