Nick Roberts (No. 7 @ 112) successfully defended his title at the Men?s FILA Junior National Wrestling Championships on Sunday in Cleveland, Ohio.

The North Star High School junior, who won his second PIAA Class AA gold medal last month in Hershey, claimed the 50-kilogram (110-pound) freestyle championship this past weekend.

Roberts is the 7th ranked wrestler in the nation at 112 lbs. according to HSWrestling.net.

The event featured the nation?s top wrestlers who are 17-20 years old.

Roberts, representing Young Guns Wrestling Club, defeated Jarred Brooks (H.M. @ 112) of Indiana 3-2, 4-1 in the finals.

Roberts now advances to the Junior World Team Trials to be held May 19-20 in Franklin, Ind. This is the qualifying event for the Junior World Championships, set for Bucharest, Romania, July 26-31. Roberts completed this same path last year en route to wrestling at the Junior World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He is the son of Scott and Bonnie Roberts of Hooversville.
