This year?s Class B state wrestling tournament, which begins Friday in Aberdeen, doesn?t just signal the end of the high school wrestling season.
It also marks the swan song of a stellar prep career for Webster senior Logan Storley (No.1 @ 171), a University of Minnesota recruit who is seeking a sixth individual state title. Achieving that feat would tie Storley with former Freeman grappler Kirk Wallman for the most titles in South Dakota high school wrestling history.
With a career record of 258-3 that includes state crowns at the 103, 119, 130, 152 and 171-pound weight classes, Storley probably doesn?t need another title to cement his legacy as one of the best that the state has ever seen.
But anyone familiar with the Webster standout knows that coming up short has never really been an option.
?It?s so hard to explain what sets him apart,? said Bearcats coach Wade Rausch. ?He refuses to allow anyone to beat him, and he treats practice like a competition. He?s one of those kids that come along once in a lifetime, and as a coach I?m fortunate enough to be a part of that.?
