Re: Capitalism has failed To the contrary, Big, complacence is the hallmark of socialism, NOT capitalism. Complacence in the name of making money does not fit into capitalism because, as others have seen, it only makes money temporarily. To continue making money and growing, innovation, NOT complacence, is needed. That is what many usccessful capitalistic systems have done. Just look at IBM, Microsoft, AT&T, and countless others. They changed and adapted to keep growing, not staying complacent.
But, remember that capitalism is merely the default human condition -- it is what happens when people are free to do as they wish. And they face the consequences of their actions. Some people may be complacent and take their resources for granted, but those people face some harsh consequences. Those who choose to innovate will thrive.
Perhaps you've noticed the oil crisis in China right now. Communist China has been artificially deflating the end-user price of gasoline and oil for some time now. The government, buying oil on the open market and paying the same price we pay for it, was just eating the additional cost to keep prices to the consumer low. THey have found that their country is using more oil than the government can afford, so the governmetn is raising prices. Gasoline prices in China have more than tripled in the last 6 months -- a greater increase then capitalist America. And, the Chinese have much lower discretionary incomes than Americans, and own many more SUVs.
The complacence, taking for granted of natural resources, and blinding people to upcoming troubles was happening under communism, not under capitalism. |
