Default Could Roster Management have saved ASU?

A friend of mine and I spent some time looking at the roster sizes, according to the EADA report, for Arizona State, and they were out of control. They carried 44 wrestlers (for comparison, Oklahoma State has 31), football had 120, men's sports with women's equivalent sports carried more than their female counterparts, etc. It's a gender equity nightmare, and it didn't have to be. No coach wants to cut down their numbers, but it's a heck of a lot better than getting a sport cut. Limiting roster size saves you money, even if the kid is an unrecruited walk on. This takes you back to ASU's administration. If the administration had control over their coaches and practiced some roster management, ASU might not be in the predicament that they are in.
