I can't help but think that Title IX played a fairly minimal role in this program getting cut. Why? Because of other programs that I've known that have been cut, they could not be reinstated even if supporters could financially keep the program alive. In the case of ASU, they clearly said that if outside sources fund it, it can stay.
So, Title IX must not be playing much of a role in this, correct? |
Title IX was the catalist that started many programs on the road to their demise. While it's not always the stated cause of cutting programs it rears its ugly head if even behind a veil. There remains no rhyme or reason for many of the ways Title IX is implemented and it does, on occasion, get blamed for cuts where administrators an AD's lack sufficient cause.
ASU cutting wrestling probably has more to do with long term financial support of their new indoor football facility than Title IX.
Follow the money.
