The word Hoya comes from a chant that Georgetown students would yell in the late 19th century: Hoya Saxa, which means "What Rocks." They were called the Stonewalls in those days, so it made more sense. Another random Georgetown fact: they changed their colors to blue and gray after the Civil War to promote unity.
